The Washington and Iron County, UT economic landscape is looking good. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate increased from 0.5% to 6.7% in Washington County, UT. This increase has pushed the unemployment rate in Washington County above the state average and below the national average. And, according to RealtyTrac, home foreclosures are also down again. In January there were approximately 10 in every 10,000 homes foreclosed in Washington County, UT. That is a decrease from the prior month and the prior year. Iron County, UT also shows improvement in unemployment by an increase from 0.3% to 6.6% according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. And, RealtyTrac shows nearly 20 of every 10,000 homes were foreclosed on in January. The state of Utah’s Economic Landscape is also looking good. The economy is steady and growing according to Governor Gary Herbert. Utah’s economy actually grew 3.1% in January, which was twice as fast as the national economy that only grew 1.6% in January. And, the unemployment rate for Utah is at 5.4% compared to the national unemployment average of 7.9%. Even with federal uncertainty and appropriation, Utah’s economy is still solid.
